Set up Veystrix on Android
About three minutes. Works on any Android phone or tablet.
Sign in to download your configuration file, or see plans.
Before you start: sign in at your account, choose a location and download your configuration file. Do it on the phone itself to save transferring the file.
1. Install WireGuard
Open the Play Store and install WireGuard, published by WireGuard Development Team. Free, no purchases.
2. Import your configuration
1. Open WireGuard and tap the blue + at the bottom right. 2. Tap Import from file or archive. 3. Find the .conf file in Downloads. 4. Tap it. The tunnel appears in the list.
3. Connect
Tap the toggle beside the tunnel name. Android asks permission to set up a VPN connection the first time — tap OK. A key icon appears in the status bar.
4. Check it worked
Open veystrix.net/tools/ip. It should say you are coming through our network, in the country you picked.
Always-on, and a real kill switch
This is the best part of Android's VPN support and almost nobody turns it on.
Settings → Network and internet → VPN → the gear beside WireGuard:
- Always-on VPN — reconnects by itself whenever the phone is online.
- Block connections without VPN — this is a proper kill switch. If the tunnel drops, nothing
leaves the phone rather than falling back to the open network.
Turn both on. The second one matters most on a phone, which changes network constantly and silently. More in what a kill switch actually does.
Exact menu names vary a little by manufacturer — Samsung puts it under Connections, More connection settings.
If it does not work
"Always-on VPN" is greyed out. Connect the tunnel manually once first, then the option becomes available.
It disconnects when the screen is off. Battery optimisation is killing it. Settings, Apps, WireGuard, Battery, and set it to Unrestricted.
Import fails. Some file managers hand over the wrong thing. Open WireGuard first and browse to the file from inside it, rather than tapping the file in a downloads app.
Slow. Try a nearer server — download a new configuration with a different country.
One thing worth knowing
The .conf file is a credential. Delete it from Downloads once imported.
