Set up Veystrix on iPhone or iPad
About three minutes. You need the configuration file from your account.
Sign in to download your configuration file, or see plans.
Before you start: sign in at your account, choose a location and download your configuration file. Do this on the iPhone itself — it saves emailing the file to yourself.
1. Install WireGuard
Open the App Store and install WireGuard, published by WireGuard Development Team. It is free and there is nothing to buy inside it.
2. Import your configuration
1. Open WireGuard and tap the + in the top right. 2. Tap Create from file or archive. 3. Find the .conf file you downloaded — it will be under Downloads in the Files app, or under Recents. 4. Tap it.
iOS will ask permission to add a VPN configuration. Tap Allow, then confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. This prompt is the step people stop at — it is iOS asking, not us, and it is required.
3. Connect
Toggle the tunnel on. A small VPN badge appears in the status bar at the top of the screen.
4. Check it worked
Open veystrix.net/tools/ip. It should say you are coming through our network and show the country you chose.
If it shows your normal address, the tunnel is not carrying traffic — see below.
Turning it on automatically
In WireGuard, tap your tunnel, then Edit, then On-Demand. Switch on Wi-Fi and Cellular to have it connect by itself whenever the phone is online.
Worth doing. It is also the closest thing iOS has to a kill switch — see what a kill switch actually does.
If it does not work
"Allow" never appeared. Settings, General, VPN and Device Management. Remove any old Veystrix profile and import again.
It connects and drops immediately. Usually a second VPN app still installed. iOS only allows one active tunnel. Delete the other one.
Everything is slow. Try a closer server location. Download a new configuration from your account with a different country — see does a VPN slow you down.
The IP tool still shows your own address. Force-close Safari and reopen it. If it persists, delete the tunnel and re-import.
One thing worth knowing
Treat the .conf file like a password. It grants access to your VPN account. Delete it from your Downloads folder once it is imported, and do not email it around.
